VDL x Pantone 2020: Meet the new Classic Blue kit coming to Avon

I first heard of the company Pantone a little over a year ago, when the “color of the year” phenomenon was suddenly all over my social media feeds. When they announced 2020’s color of the year, it seemed right on the money. Classic Blue – a familiar, comforting color that reminds me of elementary school art class (where all of my friends argued over whose turn it was to use that deep blue marker).

When I saw that Pantone was teaming up with VDL Cosmetics and Avon, I was immediately intrigued. This three-way partnership seemed out of the blue (pardon the pun) yet super exciting. I had to find out more! Now, I finally get to share the details with you – which is the even more thrilling part.

Without further ado, let’s take a look! Here is all you need to know about the new VDL x Pantone 2020 kit launching exclusively through Avon.

What is the VDL X Pantone® Primer Mini Kit?

The VDL x Pantone® Primer Mini Kit is a whimsical, limited edition primer set launching through Avon on July 22nd, 2020. This VDL x Pantone 2020 collaborative kit celebrates Pantone’s official color of the year: Classic Blue.

This kit includes 4 mini bottles of different VDL makeup primers, including one formula that’s exclusive to the set. To make things more fun, the packaging is made to look like a paint can, acknowledging Pantone‘s long history as a worldwide authority on color and color-related trends.

What products are included in the kit?

As mentioned above, this kit includes 4 different VDL primers which I’ll go into more detail about below. Of course, part of the appeal is that adorable mini PANTONE® Classic Blue container, which is designed to look like a tiny paint can. I don’t know about you, but I go nuts over a good miniature!

Each mini primer bottle contains 0.4 fl oz, compared to 1.01 fl oz for the regular size VDL bottles. So – if you’ve been dying to get your hands on these products, it’s the perfect opportunity to try them all without breaking the bank! As some of you already know, 3 of these babies are part of Avon’s permanent VDL primer lineup.

Boost Primer

The VDL Boost Primer is exclusive to this mini kit, and features a blue-mauve nuanced pearl finish inspired by the Classic Blue.

Boost is designed to visibly correct, brighten and even your skin tone/texture for a smooth, flawless finish. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid, a skincare ingredient that can hold up to 1000x its weight in water. This helps hydrate your skin and create a visible radiance.

VDL Lumilayer Primer

The Lumilayer Primer formula is designed to visibly brighten, plump, and sculpt the skin. It contains prismatic pearls with a violet hue to create that gorgeous “glass skin” effect with a cool finish.

VDL Lumilayer Primer Fresh

The Lumilayer Primer Fresh is similar to the original Lumilayer Primer, but contains a blend of red, gold, and white pearls for a warmer finish. Made with 70% moisturizing essence, it’s designed for hydration in addition to brightening.

Satin Veil Primer

In contrast to the other brightening primers, the Satin Veil Primer is designed for a soft matte finish. It’s formulated with soft-veiling polymers, which blur pores and fine lines. It also contains prune water and rose enfleurage oil for hydration and skin elasticity.

I have this kit but not sure what to do. Is it a make up or a base to use before make up? How do you use the kit….there are no instructions. Thank you for any help.

      Hi Sandi,

Yes – they are all face primers which means it gets applied underneath your foundation. It’s meant to prep the skin for your makeup so that your foundation looks more even and flawless. It also increases wear time so your makeup lasts longer.

I recommend first putting a small amount of the primer on the back of your hand and then warming it up with your fingers. Then, dab the primer all over your face. Then, rub the primer onto your skin to fully blend it and make it even. Let it dry for about a minute before applying your foundation.
