MagiX Dust: Reviewing the unique powder made with real crystals

I’ve been dying to try out MagiX Dust Finishing Powder ever since I first heard about it a few weeks ago. Even though I wasn’t actively looking to add a new powder product to my makeup collection, this one instantly reminded me of Avon’s Smooth Minerals line – a product that left so many customers disappointed when it was discontinued just last year. Could MagiX Dust be a suitable replacement? I had to find out!

Not to mention – I was reeled in by the oh-so-intriguing ingredients Avon is using to concoct this new version of their mineral powder. Yes – I mean crystals. So how does this new finishing powder hold up to the advertising? You’ll have to read on to find out!

But first, a little background . . .

UPDATE 2022: MagiX Dust has a new name! It is now known as Match Dust Finishing Powder and Match Set Finishing Powder.

My experience

Check out the video below to see how it went when I tried MagiX Dust in “Translucent Medium-Deep“.

Application

Application was a breeze, but that’s no surprise! The only thing really to assess here is the level of mess. Anyone who’s tried a loose powder product before knows that you need to be super careful not to let the powder get EVERYWHERE. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to contain. I personally think the twist and lock feature will make a huge difference so that the product doesn’t spill into the top portion of the package by accident before the cap is opened.

Appearance/Finish

When I first applied the product, I was cautiously optimistic. However, the more time that passed, the more I pictured myself using MagiX Dust on an ongoing basis. I really like the way that this powder provides a sunkissed glow to my face, without darkening my complexion in an obvious way. The “glowing soft matte” claim really holds up.

As far as the blurring pores claim, I am not quite sure that this product does much. I think I will have to test this out again on another day without foundation underneath my powder. On top of my pore-blurring foundation, I don’t really notice a difference. However, I did find that my face was much less shiny with this finishing powder, which is a factor that’s very important to me. It sets my foundation very nicely.

Overall, I found the finish to be quite gorgeous. The other people in my household really noticed, and I got a few compliments!

Staying Power

I am pretty satisfied in the staying power of this product when it comes to makeup setting. It definitely kept my makeup in place all day long.

However, I do think it could have done a better job of shine control over time. Like I mentioned above, my face was much less shiny after applying this powder. However, I did begin to see a little sweat break through after a few hours. I wish the shine control lasted a bit longer.

Other thoughts

There is one other area where I feel MagiX Dust really stands out: comfort. This powder is truly lightweight, and feels so comfortable on my face. I can honestly see myself wearing it every single day.

A big factor when it comes to comfort is allergies. I don’t know about you, but I am low-key allergic to most powdered makeup products. Avon’s old Smooth Minerals powder was especially problematic for me in the allergy department. My face would be constantly itchy, and I would sneeze often. However, MagiX Dust seems to be . . . well, magic! If anything, my face is LESS itchy than it was before I filmed and put makeup on this morning. If you watched the video above, you might have noticed that my face is actually covered in tiny hives from seasonal allergies. Since I finished filming, I don’t think I’ve scratched my face once. I don’t know exactly why this is the case, but I’m not complaining!

Overall, I am extremely happy with this product, and will continue to use it often. I also think my customers who were disappointed when Smooth Minerals was discontinued will be very satisfied with MagiX Dust Finishing Powder as a replacement.
