Ink Tint Tattoo Matte: Reviewing Avon’s first K Beauty lip stain

I gotta admit – I’m a little late to the party on Avon x The Face Shop’s Ink Tint Tattoo Matte. In my defense, this baby launched with a collection of over a dozen other exciting makeup products, and I definitely didn’t want to give a review that felt rushed or half-hearted. Now, however, I feel like I can finally pull my tube of “About Coral” out and give it the attention it deserves!

Before creating my review, I was honestly a bit nervous. On the one hand, everybody is raving about the quality of these K Beauty products. On the other hand, lip stains in general are always hit or miss on my highly sensitive lips! Ink Tint Tattoo Matte is actually Avon’s first Korean lip stain, alongside the Ink Tint Serum Shine which launched on the same day.

Will this product be the lip stain of my dreams, or just something to shove to the back of my makeup drawer? There’s only one way to find out! But before we dive in, we need a little bit of background . . .

What is Ink Tint Tattoo Matte?

Ink Tint Tattoo Matte is a long-lasting matte lip stain by Avon x The Face Shop. It features a powder-oil formula that locks in pigment for vivid, highly-defined color.

This product is part of Avon’s collaboration with popular Korean brand The Face Shop, which began in the Fall of 2019. Ink Tint launched on October 30th of that year.

My experience

Check out the video below to see what happened when I tried out Ink Tint Tattoo Matte in About Coral!

Application

The application process was a bit trickier than expected. I found the consistency of the formula to be sort of watery, which made it difficult to apply the lip stain evenly. The liquid pooled up at the edges of my lips, and I ended up having to adjust this with my fingers. Not the end of the world – but certainly not the “precise”, “one swipe” application process promised by the advertising materials.

Once I fixed the edges, the lip stain actually dried pretty evenly. I did not have to adjust anything else, or apply a second coat.

Appearance/Finish

I actually liked the finish of this product, but it definitely wasn’t matte (at least on my lips). As you can see in the video, I kept waiting for the lip stain to dry completely so it would turn matte. However, that moment never came. The finish of this product seems to be a silky satin, which was actually pretty gorgeous.

As for the appearance of the color, I wasn’t completely sold. The bright orange was definitely not what I thought I was purchasing. In the catalog, this Coral looked much softer and warmer. I went back and forth throughout the day about whether the shade looked good with my skin tone. I don’t think I ever reached a verdict, but the color was questionable to say the least.

Also, if you have any sort of chapping on your lips, however, this lip stain will highlight that BIG TIME. When they say this product offers highly defined color, they are not kidding. Even though I exfoliated and moisturized beforehand, I still had some slight chapping – and the bright orange really brought it out.

Staying Power

The Ink Tint actually stayed on for quite a while. I have to be honest though – I didn’t test it out for as long as I normally would because it was over 100 degrees that day and our AC was broken. After about 4 hours, I couldn’t take it anymore – I had to take a shower! Surprisingly, my lip stain held up pretty well against the water. When I stepped out of the shower and looked in the mirror, my lips looked more or less the same. I didn’t even notice any smudging!

That said, my lips did not look great the whole time that the color held up. As I mention in the video, I have extremely sensitive lips. By the end of those four hours, my “slight chapping” had turned into one large, disgusting flap of skin. I won’t even subject you to a photo – you don’t want to see that! It was not nearly as painful as trying to rub off the 2-in-1 lip tattoo, but it wasn’t the flawless bold lip I was going for, either. For that reason, I can’t imagine actually leaving the house wearing this product.

Other thoughts

At the end of the day, I think this product is just not for me. At first, I thought I would be willing to try this product out in another color that is better suited for my skin tone. However, seeing how the formula affected my sensitive lips over time made me change my mind. Folks who don’t struggle so much with their lip health might have better luck with Ink Tint, but I personally won’t be wearing this product ever again.

Well, there you have it! Those are my complete thoughts about the Ink Tint Tattoo Matte by Avon x The Face Shop? Have you tried this product out for yourself? Let us know how it went in the comments below!
