As a blush minimalist, I typically go through blush products embarrassingly slowly. How embarrassing? Confession time: I’m still making my way through a half-full tub of Smooth Minerals Powder Blush (yep, the discontinued one)! That’s right – as much as I preach to my customers about not using expired makeup products for safety and hygiene reasons, somehow this 5-year-old blush in my makeup drawer has slipped through the cracks. Where did the time go?
When I saw the announcement for the new Avon liquid blush & lip stain, it was a bit of a wake up call! I realized it was way past time to review new blush products and delve into finding the perfect blush for my modern makeup looks. PLUS – this particular liquid blush doubles as a lip stain, which is super intriguing.
How does it hold up to the hype? Keep reading to find out. But before I give my thoughts, we need a tiny bit of background . . .

My experience with Glimmer Lip & Cheek Stain

Application
Application of this stain will vary a lot depending on your approach. When I began outlining my upper lip, I found it quite difficult to get the liquid even. It’s very easy to make small mistakes because of the way the product pools around the brush tip. If you’re going for a more intense color payoff, I recommend painting the entire lip, and then dabbing off the excess. However, this method requires a steady hand that I’m not sure I possess myself!
On both the lips and the cheeks, a blended approach is super simple and effective. If you’re going for a more natural-looking color payoff, you’ll find this lip & cheek stain very easy to apply. Just be careful about blending with your fingers, because it really did stain my fingers for the rest of the day. I was so distracted by filming this review that I didn’t wash my hands immediately, which may have helped.
Appearance/Finish
I absolutely love the finish of this stain. I was especially happy with how it looked on my cheeks, because it created a super natural-looking flush. I can tell this is going to be my favorite blush for a long time.
I also really liked the look of Glimmer on the lips. A light, blended layer makes your lips look fairly bare, yet healthy. It’s a great way to finish off no-makeup makeup looks. That said, both shades are pretty versatile depending on how many layers you apply, and the thickness of the layers. You can get a bright, sassy look out of this if you want!
Staying Power
While this stain did slowly fade from the lips over the course of the day, it put up a pretty good fight. A good amount of the pigment remained by the time I pulled out the makeup remover before bed. It doesn’t quite have the staying power of the 2-in-1 lip tattoo. However, I personally would prefer the Glimmer Lip & Cheek Stain in this regard because of how gracefully it faded. At no point did it appear uneven or partially faded in one spot over the other. I like having that peace of mind.
I also was pretty impressed that the lip stain held up after lunchtime, because my lunch was particularly greasy. That’s right, friends – this lip stain is chorizo approved!
As far as the cheeks, I didn’t notice any fading at all. I absolutely love it as a blush!
